Operator: Australian Eco Adventures Minimum Price: AUD $ 1,880 In 4 days you’ll see the real outback, stay at 3 homesteads on cattle and sheep stations, meet the people who live and work in these remote areas and see kangaroos, koalas, emus and a diverse range of bird species DAY 1: Sydney – Coolah (LD) From Sydney we travel north to the Hunter Valley following back roads to Denman, Cassilis and onto Coolah Tops, a recent addition to the National Parks. Here we drive and walk through some breathtaking forests with spellbinding waterfalls and enjoy views across the fertile Liverpool Plains. Reaching our first cattle and sheep station, Baladonga at Coolah we spend a relaxing night with owners Rosie and Gayford. Overnight: "Baladonga " is a 4500 acre sheep and cattle property in Central Western NSW, located 10km north of Coolah. The 110 year old sandstone homestead is set in a spacious, pretty garden overlooking the surrounding hills. Kangaroos, wallabies and emus roam freely on the farm for guests to see and enjoy. Swimming, walks and a property tour are a feature. DAY 2: Coolah – Coonamble (BLD) Enjoy a hearty breakfast before we travel on to Binnaway and Coonabarabran. Then experience the rugged beauty of one of NSW’s favorite parks, Warrumbungle NP. Here we enjoy a picnic lunch and short walks and if we’re lucky we’ll see as far as Mt Kaputar. A visit to the Siding Spring Observatory will introduce you to the world of sky watching, planets and the stars. Continuing into “the outback†we travel unsealed roads to Coonamble and out to the delightful property “ Thurn †owned by the McLeish family. Still a working cattle station, Thurn has been turned into a semi-nature reserve with extraordinary birdlife and wildlife to be seen from your accommodation. DAY 3: Coonamble – Mudgee (BLD) After another great Australian country breakfast there’s time to explore parts of the property with our hosts before we depart to Macquarie Marshes where again prolific birdlife will delight our guests. After lunch we continue on turning South East to travel through Warren, Gilgandra and a stop at Dunedoo. Our trip takes us through Gulgong with it’s distinctive “gold rush†past. Finally we enjoy tasting some of the Mudgee regions premium wines before arriving at our overnight sheep and cattle Station, Lue Homestead. DAY 4: Mudgee – Sydney (BL) A restful start this morning with a trip around parts of this 10,000 acre property with our host. Departing in the late morning we cross the famous Blue Mountains, pause at spectacular Govett’s Leap, then drive to Katoomba for lunch at beautiful Carrington Hotel. Descending the Blue Mountains we drive deep into National Park to Euroka Clearing where we see kangaroos in the wild while we enjoy a glass of champagne to toast our Outback adventure – then it’s along the freeway and back into Sydney by about 6.00pm.
