This unique hiking trip takes you to on a fantastic exploration of the Autralian Outback with visits to luru (Ayers Rock), Kata Tjuta (Olgas), Kings Canyon, Alice Springs, Plenty Highway, Atitjere Aboriginal Community, Waltzing Matilda Country, Hughenden, Porcupine Gorge, Woorooneran National Park

 

Day 1 - Alice Springs - Kata Tjuta - Uluru


Travel to the Outback Camel Farm for an optional camel ride (at own expense). Journey on to Uluru (Ayers Rock) – Explore the ’Valley of the Winds’ in the majestic Kata Tjuta (Olgas) – Enjoy a champagne sunset at Uluru – Camp at our permanent campsite in tents or view the outback sky while sleeping in authentic Aussie bedrolls (swags). Day 2 - Uluru to Kings Canyon


Up before sunrise for a base walk at Uluru or choose to climb – Visit the Aboriginal Cultural Centre – After lunch, head to Kings Canyon for our overnight camp. (BLD)

Day 3 - Kings Canyon to Alice Springs


Climb and explore Kings Canyon, viewing the impressive formations of the ’Amphitheatre’, ’The Lost City’ and the spectacular North and South Walls – Swim in the picturesque ’Garden of Eden’ (summer only) – After lunch, return to Alice Springs enjoying the rugged desert scenery. Dormitory included or motel room available at own expense. (BL)

Day 4 - Alice Springs


A day at leisure to relax and enjoy the Red Centre town of Alice Springs. Overnight in dormitory included or motel room available at own expense. (No meals)

Day 5 - Alice Springs to Boulia


Journey on the mighty Plenty Highway one of Australia’s oldest stock routes, seeing the giant termite mounds and keeping an eye out for the wildlife. An early morning stop is at Atitijuka Aboriginal community before continuing on to Jervois cattle station to see Giant termite mounds and have lunch. We then travel to our overnight air conditioned multi-share accommodation at Wirrelyerna Cattle Station. (LD)

Day 6 – Boulia to Hughenden


An early start to travel through Banjo Patterson’s Waltzing Matilda country, with a visit to Carisbrooke Station with its famous escarpments and a walk at Python Gorge to see Aboriginal Rock Art. We stop for lunch at the Middleton Pub – population 6. After lunch it’s on to Winton the home of the Waltzing Matilda Centre (own expense) for an afternoon break before arriving at Hughenden our overnight air-conditioned multi-share accommodation at the Grand Hotel, Hughenden. Day 7 – Hughenden to Cairns


Up bright and early with our first stop being the magnificent Porcupine Gorge. Continuing along the unsealed Kennedy Development Road to Lynd Junction Pub, the smallest in Australia. The landscape changes dramatically as we travel through World Heritage Rainforest. Wash off the deserts dust with a 2 hour guided rainforest walk with a swim at a beautiful waterfall in the World Heritage Woorooneran National Park. Having conquered the desert its time for a farewell dinner. (BLD)
