Minimum Price: AUD $ 2,400 Billy Tea Bush Safaris is a family owned company, we run 4WD personalised tours to Daintree / Cape Tribulation, Cape York, Central Australia and the Northern Territory. We have vehicles ( max.14 ) custom built for passenger comfort and to withstand some of the ruggedness required in the areas that we operate. We have fully equipped camping trailers ( Kitchen, Lights, Ice boxes etc.) and the vehicles are equipped with Air-conditioning, First Aid Kits, UHF radios and Satellite phones, Flying Doctor radios and all seats are seat-belted and forward facing. We specialise in charters and will personalise a tour to suit the requests from clients.
DAY 1 - Cairns to Hann River (L/D).
We depart Cairns around 7.00am & travel through Mareeba, and the Palmer River area to Lakeland Downs. On to Quinkan country and view Aboriginal rock art. A brief stop at Laura then we set camp by the Hann River. (Toilets and showers)
DAY 2 - Hann River to Archer River (B/L/D).
Our route takes us along the Development Road to historic Musgrave Telegraph Station, then through Coen and camp at the Archer River Roadhouse. (Toilets and showers)
DAY 3 - Archer River to Bertie Creek (B/L/D).
Today we drive the Telegraph Track where earnest four wheel driving begins. We cross many crystal clear creeks, traverse open woodland country, pass monster termite mounds and make camp by Bertie Creek with its beautiful rock pools. (Bush toilet & swim)
DAY 4 - Bertie Creek to Cape York (B/L/D).
Another exciting day crossing streams like Cockatoo and Sailor. We then ferry over the infamous Jardine River which is renowned for its crocodiles. We call at Bamaga briefly on our way to our base camp overlooking Torres Strait. (Toilets & showers)
DAY 5 - Cape York (B/L/D).
Celebrate as we stand on the very tip of Cape York, visit Cape Somerset and some other beauty spots before returning to our base camp. (Toilets and showers)
DAY 6 - Cape York (B/D).
Those who wish may travel by launch to Thursday Island (own expense), enjoy a flight over Torres Strait, go fishing or perhaps just have a lazy day sun baking on the beach. (Toilets and showers)
DAY 7 - Cape York to Twin Falls (B/L/D).
This morning we head to Twin on the magnificent Elliot River after a brief stop in Bamaga. (Pit toilet and swim)
DAY 8 - Twin Falls (B/L/D).
Relax, swim and explore spectacular Indian Head Falls, Elliot River and Twin Falls, a uniquely beautiful area and a very special part of Cape York. (Pit toilet and swim)
DAY 9 - Twin Falls to Wenlock River (B/L/D).
Travel through Heathlands Reserve and pause at the formidable Gunshot Creek crossing Tonight's camp is on the upper banks of the Wenlock River. (Bush toilet and swim)
DAY 10 - Wenlock River to Weipa (B/D).
We depart early, drive on good roads, arriving about lunchtime in Weipa. This afternoon relax with time to shop or catch up on chores, fishing is also available as an option. (Toilets & showers)
DAY 11 - Weipa to Coen (B/D).
A mine and town tour is available at own expense. Then we continue our journey south for the country atmosphere of Coen and make camp near the river. (Toilets and showers)
DAY 12 - Coen to Lakefield (B/L/D)
Over the Bamboo range, we pause at Musgrave then turn east and enter the vast expanses of Lakefield National Park, Bustards, Brolgas, Jabirus, water fowl are just some of the 200 odd species that inhabit this park. We may also see Pigs, Crocodiles or Dingoes. Our camp is by the Normanby River within this national park. (Toilets & showers)
DAY 13 - Lakefield to Cooktown (B/L)
See historic old Laura Homestead, which has been restored and now conveys some of the hardships endured by our pioneers. We arrive at Cooktown in time to visit the James Cook Historical Museum at own expense. Overnight at the Tropical Breeze campground. This evening we dine out (optional) a break from camp cooking. DAY 14 - Cooktown to Cairns (B/L)
After visiting Grassy Hill, the mysterious Black Mountain is our next stop. See the Lions Den Pub, then if weather permits, we venture onto the notorius "Bloomfield Track" visiting Bloomfield Falls and magnificence of Cape Tribulation are highlights on our last day. Fond farewells as alas our adventure has come to an end in Cairns at approximately 1800 hours.
