Operator: Ossies Outback 4WD Tours Minimum Price: AUD $ 995 Ossies Outback 4WD Tours, in conjunction with Lindsay Bookie, are proud to announce a genuine opportunity for a cross cultural experience on Aboriginal Land on Hay River in Northern Simpson Desert. Our host Lindsay is a senior Eastern Arrernte Law man and traditional owner of this area Lindsay has worked as a stockman (cowboy) and an NT Police Tracker giving him a wealth of knowledge about his country and its people. With his family he invites you to share their traditional skills in finding and collecting bush foods, tracking and finding water – subject to seasonal variances. People with varied interests from Photography, Bird Watching, Exploration & Love of Nature will enjoy a chance to associate with Rural Aboriginals in their Backyard. Baton Hill – Lindsay's place has very good shower & toilet facilities – plenty of hot & cold water with comfortable SWAGS or Tents after Campfire Hospitality. This unique Tour will further enhance Ossies range of Tours in the theme of 'Tracks less Traversed'. Day 1 (L, D): Depart Alice Springs at 7.30am. North to the plenty Highway, then East to Atitjere Aboriginal Community nestled below scenic Harts Range. Time to meet the locals at the Store (Refreshments at own expense) & Art Centre where you can view/buy locally made art. Jervois Homestead is our next stop before leaving the Plenty Rd for the Red Sand Track to our destination, Lindsay's place at Baton Hill on the Hay River. Lindsay will be our Host for the next few days and after settling in he will take you on a Nightwalk to introduce himself and his country. Day 2 (B, L, D): A leisurely breakfast then off on our days Bushtucker exploration. Depending on the season, we may dig for yams and witchety grubs; collect bush bananas, bush tomatoes and fruits like native cucumber and the yalka, a type of onion found in the area. We visit Mt Teitkins for lunch and go sight seeing via Mt Smith, exploring the Hay River en route to our Bush Camp. Enjoy a Bush BBQ or Camp Fire Meal. An evening spent relaxing around the campfire with Lindsay, is an unforgettable experience as he talks about his country, the old people, their traditional ways and some of their stories. Day 3 (B, L, D): A relaxing start to the day. Wildlife abounds in this remote, untouched wilderness. Lindsay will identify the species you see and explain the tracks left by animals unseen. Goyder's Pillar for sunset before returning to camp for a Camp Oven Dinner. Day 4 (B, L): Sunrise walk this morning. Breakfast on your return then pack up camp and homeward bound to the Alice via the Plenty Highway.
