Day 1 Launceston to St Helens
Check out Tasmania’s second city and Australia’s third oldest,
Launceston, with its beautifully maintained architecture, and small
city welcoming atmosphere. The Cataract Gorge and First Basin is a
great natural attraction to explore. Head out of Launceston to a
Lavender Farm and perhaps even make a winery visit. Continue the
journey east to St Helens and through to Binalong Bay for a walk on the
pristine white beaches and orange lichen covered rocks of the Bay of
Fires. Tonight let’s try some of the local seafood for dinner.

Day 2 St Marys to Bicheno
Take the opportunity to visit another of Tasmania’s gorgeous national
parks, Douglas Apsley, with a tempting fresh waterhole, and lookout.
Hug the coast as you pass a string of white sandy beaches all the way
south to Coles Bay located on the Freycinet Peninsula. Spend the rest
of the day exploring Freycinet National Park. For those seeking a
challenge, try the climb to the summit of Mt Amos or join a guided walk
to Wineglass Bay, voted one of the world’s top 10 beaches There are
other free walking choices and a visit to Cape Tourville . At dusk take
a guided tour for a closer look at the life of the Little Penguins as
they return nightly to their rookeries to feed their young.

Day 3 Bicheno to Hobart
Visit the coastal town of Swansea next and try to resist the treats at
Kate’s Berry Farm. Catch the ferry from Triabunna to Maria Island, a
national park in its entirety. This is a special place with something
for everyone – historic ruins, sweeping bays, rugged cliffs and
mountains and remarkable wildlife. It’s free from cars and its only
residents the animals, including large numbers of Cape Barren Geese and
Forester Kangaroos. We return to Triabunna and transfer to Hobart where
your night is free to enjoy.

Day 4 Hobart to Tarraleah
Our Tasmanian experience begins this morning with some of the sights
around Tasmania’s capital city of Hobart including Salamanca Place,
Battery Point and the waterfront docks. We then head for the hills and
discover Mt Field, Tasmania’s first and oldest National Park. Take a
walk to Russell Falls and around the alpine Lake Dobson. Finish the day
at Tarraleah, best known as the birth place of the hydro scheme in
Tasmania.

Day 5 Tarraleah to Strahan
Delve further into the wilderness with a visit to Lake St Clair,
Australia’s deepest freshwater lake. Take a short walk beside the lake
with views over many of the mountains in the Cradle Mountain/Lake St
Clair National Park. Continue to Tasmania’s west coast making several
stops along the way to stretch the legs on some great short walks
including Donaghy’s Lookout, Franklin River and Nelson Falls. Finish
the day in Strahan at the very edge of the west coast. Explore wild
Ocean Beach, and walk to Hogarth Falls this evening.

Day 6 Strahan to Cradle Mountain
One of the most powerful and meaningful experiences on the west coast
is surely the Gordon River Cruise (optional). Enjoy an amazing mixture
of scenery, history and even a gourmet lunch. If you’re not interested
in taking a cruise, choose an equally stunning activity, the West Coast
Wilderness Railway (optional). Travel this afternoon to Cradle Mountain
via the towns of Rosebery and Tullah. We will visit a Wildlife
Sanctuary to view the Tasmanian Devil and learn more about this unique
creature.
(B)(D) Cosy Cabins Cradle Mountain
Day 7 Cradle Mountain to Launceston
Join a guided walk or free walk on one of the many trails around Cradle
Mountain, Dove and Crater Lakes. The mountain at 1545m high, is one of
the favourite features in the park and is surrounded by stands of
native deciduous beech, rainforest, alpine heath lands and button
grass. Icy streams cascade down the mountainsides, and ancient pines
are reflected in the still glacial lakes. Later today, transfer to
Launceston with plenty of distractions to stop at along the way,
including a cheese factory and raspberry farm. Your journey with us
sadly comes to an end in Launceston.

Note: This is an Open Aged Tour for passengers over the age of 12, however
travellers over the age of 55 must provide a medical certificate from
their physician. This is to ensure that senior travellers have the
necessary fitness and mobility to comfortably complete their tour as
the itinerary takes you to remote regions and days can be long through
rugged regions, with very basic camping facilities. Children must be
accompanied by an adult.
