Operator: Adventure Express Minimum Price: AUD $ 4,200 Welcome to the Rowley Shoals*, Western Australia's best kept secret fishing location.Experience catching Sailfish, Marlin, Yellow Fin Tuna, Dog Tooth Tuna, Wahoo, Spaniards, Giant Trevally and that's just on the outside of these atolls. Inside the popper action is just as hot with Long Nose Emperors, Trevally, Trout, and many more to test you out. Of an evening you can relax inside the atoll as MV Diversity II drops anchor for the night. For those fishermen that are still keen the Red Bass will give you a final workout for the day before our culinary guru and crew prepare the days catch. For the non-fishers aboard the MV Diversity II, the coral atolls of the Rowley Shoals are famed for their almost untouched coral gardens, giant clams and other shellfish. Over 200 species of coral and nearly 700 species of fish inhabit the shoals - including many species not found on coral reefs close to the shore. The outside walls of the shoals are alive with soft corals in every imaginable colour and at low tide the waters become lagoons within the reef walls. Water gushes over them like waterfalls until high tide when the reefs disappear beneath the sea, with only the sandy islands of Clerke and Imperieuse visible. The MV Diversity II also enjoys a drift dive through the channels to see the many different corals and fish life that the Rowley Shoals keep as their own. Located 160nm west of the pearling town of Broome, the Rowley Shoals consist of 3 atolls that rise out of the depths of 400 metres to break the surface. Their location means they are visited by a handful of keen fishermen and divers each year. The atolls were first sighted by Captain Rowley in the early 1800's, he went onto name two of the three atolls. The most southern being, Imperieuse Reef which was the name of the ship he commanded and the second was given the name of Clerke Reef, being the captains name of a whaling ship. The last and most north, Mermaid Reef, was named by our own navigator and chartographer, Captain Philip Parker King, after his own ship The Mermaid and; as a sign of respect gave the three atolls the name of The Rowley Shoals. This is truly the last untouched reef system in Australia so why not be one of the few to experience such an amazing place. Diversity Charters support Catch and Release fishing, and the Fish for the Future concept. * Charters to the Rowley Shoals are subject to approval of DEC (previously CALM) permit. Diversity Charter Company lodge their application upon confirmation of booking. Permit fees are not included in charter cost and are due with the final payment of the booked charter
